When an album begins with a cappella song, performed in a magnificent impressive way by a singer like Lauren Anderson, it is easy to guess what this recording will present to listeners. Countless times Lauren has been compared with artists like Janis Joplin, Joss Stone, Larkin Poe, Susan Tedeschi or Brandi Carlile and the true thing is that in each song she performs Lauren leads us to her particular universe of rock, Americana music and contemporary blues and does it with a more than a strong authority. Originally from Chicago, Anderson and her band have opened for artists like Beth Hart, Samantha Fish, Mike Zito or Walter Trout. With these credentials it is not a surprise that the nine Lauren’s own compositions included in the album become a seductive example of the creative and unique skills this artist is able to offer when she works with no pressure and total freedom, especially if she is backed by a bunch of good musicians such as Jimi Greene on guitar, Kiran Gupta on keyboards, Hutch on bass, Matt Doctor on drums, Jon & Liz Estes on strings plus the special collaboration of Mike Zito on guitar in the song “Back To Chicago”.
