In 2015, singer and drummer Larry Taylor assembled his brothers and sisters at Chicago’s Joyride Studios to pay tribute to their father Eddie Taylor Sr., their mother Vera Taylor and West Side Blues that has so deeply influenced the whole family. From that session comes this album that now publishes Nola Blue Records in commemoration of the great Eddie “Playboy” Taylor birth centenary.

Eddie came to Chicago in 1949 from Mississippi and was soon one of Vee-Jay Records leading artists, playing in Jimmy Reed’s band, also becoming a source of inspiration for different guitar players like Freddie King.

The eldest brother, Larry Taylor has been the one who led this project. He has a long and fruitful career in Chicago blues scene. His sister Brenda Taylor has worked regularly for Hannes Forterbauer’s Austrian label, Wolf Records. Her younger sister Demetria Taylor has recorded for Delmark Records and toured internationally. His brother Tim Taylor is on drums, and Larry’s son, a well-known young rap musician known as Liljet2x, includes a rap dedicated to his mother, the late Janice Myles. Finally, you will also find his brother Eddie Taylor Jr., who passed away in 2019 who was also a prominent bluesman performing very often with Maurice John Vaughn and Eddie Shaw.

Surrounded by a select group of musicians, the Taylor family presents thirteen songs of the most genuine, pure, straightforward and exclusive Chicago blues, showing the whole family get and feel the blues which, undoubtedly, will leave breathless all of us who love real Chicago blues.
