Probably Kiko Pereira is a quite unknown musician for general audiences outside Portugal. However, it has a remarkable vocal quality and a very good taste to compose and perform songs.

Thanks to A-Z Music, here comes his last job, recorded with The Blues Refugees and entitled “Threadbare”, that includes eleven varied songs that become a good example of the wide possibilities they can bring to listeners. Elegant and well-developed rhythms and styles, which invite us to a suggestive journey through jazz, soul, gospel and even pop or rock, although blues is always present and creates the basis of the songs you will find on it.

The song lyrics are very suggestive too, as they talk about many of the problems or challenges facing today’s society, like fake news, Instagram, social media or the inequality of justice nowadays.

Although he was born in Newark, Kiko has lived in Portugal since late 70’s. Besides singer, he is also a voice teacher, composer and producer, and has collaborated in numerous jazz projects with Portuguese musicians. His vocal skills are undeniable and the album quality is remarkable too, so it is a pleasure to listen to it. Besides, Kiko is surrounded by a group of excellent very professional Portuguese musicians who give all their experience to this more than interesting recording. In short words, a well displayed, elegant, very actual and enjoyable project.
