Although Kelly Zirbes (Kelly’s Lot) has an undeniable reputation in Americana music, she has always loved the blues, especially after she met Texas guitarist and sound engineer Perry Robertson in 1996 who, a year later, joined the band. Together, they designed a new sound with more influences from Texas blues, reaching a more personal style that combines in a totally natural way Americana and blues.
With this new recording Kelly wants to celebrate her thirty years of career. An album where the blues is present and stands out in many of the ten songs that make up the cd, nine of them written by Kelly in collaboration with Perry Robertson.
The band now includes Kelly on vocals, Perry Robertson on acoustic and electric guitars, Mo Matt McFadden on bass and double bass and Mike Sauer on drums. For the album she has counted with a series of guest musicians like Moo Beeks on keyboards in practically all the songs and also in a vocal duet with Kelly in “Gotta Sing The Blues”, Rob Zucca on guitar, harmonica players Frank “Cisco” Hinojosa and Tomislav Goluban, sax players Bill Johnston, Paulie Cerra and Aviva Maloney who also plays the flute in the song “Just Tell Me The Truth”, Gary Bivona on flugelhorn, Didier Reyes on trumpet, Chip Tingle on trombone and finally Art Mendoza on drums in one cut.
Kelly is not a typical blues singer, but nevertheless she manages to communicate all the blues feeling when it is displayed by an elegant singer, gifted with a suitable vocal register and such good musical manners as she treasures.
