Katie Kern was born in Vienna Her parents were art and music teachers Soon they discovered her daughter had an innate talent for music so they began to teach her classical piano His father taught her to control technique and improvisation in this instrument At the time of her school graduation Katie discovered the guitar and left behind the world of classical music to explore the varied roads of pop, learning by herself copying The Beatles songs In 1994 her life totally changed when she discovered the blues listening to Ry Cooder in the film Crossroads From that moment on, Katie has totally devoted herself to learn from the great blues masters like Robert Johnson, BB King, Bonnie Raitt or Mississippi John Hurt, starting his blues music career playing in bars and clubs In 1999 Hannes Folterbauer from Wolf Records discovered her talent and produced this recording for his label Not only Katie Kern reveals herself as a unique powerful singer but she also shows she is a guitar player who has got the twist and groove of the most traditional genuine electric blues, she displays with taste, cleverness and an special passion and commitment The band includes Katie Kern on vocals and guitar, Peter Kern, guitar on five tracks, Hannes Kasehs, guitar, Chista Kasehs bass and Reinhard Dlapa drums This is an album of genuine Chicago blues played with self confidence, cool grace and honesty
