Marvellous recordings, coming from great piano player Kansas City Frank Melrose, who unfortunately is now completely forgotten by blues lovers Frank was a true representative of real barrelhouse blues and an excellent performer of old stomps and rags he learned in his young years from his good friend Jelly Roll Morton he shared stage with many times during the old Prohibition times The cd brings us some previously unreleased tracks recorded in 1940 Melrose plays in solo, trio and quintet formats, including different delicious musical styles, from hot jazz to ragtime and, obviously, thirties barrelhouse blues piano New Orleans, Kansas City and pre-war Chicago blues come together in this unbelievable excellent record that deserves a special place in all record collections
