Johnny Rawls is a soul music legend. With a more than fifty years career, he is now a world-renowned artist, producer and songwriter and he is still very active and in good form, touring countless times all over USA and Europe.

Born in 1951 in Columbia, Mississippi, he started playing clarinet in the school band when he was in 5th. grade, graduating in saxophone and trumpet too. When he was thirteen, he became interested on guitar after listening to his grandfather playing it at a Christmas party. Aged fifteen he began his musical career as sax player, backing artists like ZZ Hill, Little Johnny Taylor, Joe Tex or The Sweet Inspirations and also became O.V. Wright’s musical director. In 1985 he began a solo career, getting national and international fame and recognition.

This new release includes ten songs, most of them Rawls’s own compositions, together with some covers like “Born All Over” coming from O.V. Wright, “Trying To Live My Life Without You” by the late Otis Clay, he recorded an album with before he passed away, or “Hungry Heart” by Bruce Springsteen. All the songs communicate the feeling of the most traditional Southern soul developed with very contemporary arrangements and instrumentation.

Besides Johnny Rawls on vocals and guitar in a couple of tracks, the rest of the musicians involved are Johnny McGhee on guitar, Dan Ferguson on keyboards, Bob Trenchard on bass, Richy Puga on drums, Andy Roman on sax, Nick Flood on tenor, alto and baritone sax, Mike Middleton on trumpet and Frank Otero on trombone.

An excellent soul recording by one of the most renowned architects of this musical genre.
