After years and years of performing every night at the side of the best blues musicians, learning from them all the blues secrets, Johnny Burgin has now become a real master Gone are the days when Rockin’ Johnny felt he was privileged living in Chicago where he was able to absorb all the knowledge of those legendary bluesmen like Eddie C Campbell, Eddie Taylor Jr, Jimmy Dawkins, Eddie Shaw, Jimmy Burns or Eddie Clearwater among many others Twenty years have gone by since the release of his previous work, so now Burgin wants to bring us one of those albums one can find from time to time It is a kind of improvised jam session where Jimmy put together a bunch of musicians who had never played together, to perform a series of original songs with only one night of a previous rehearsal The album was recorded at the Redwood Café in California and, together with Johnny Burgin on guitar and vocals, you will also find Aki Kumar on harmonica and percussion, Kid Andersen on guitar and piano, Chris Matheos on bass, Steve Dougherty on drums, Rae Gordon on vocals in two songs, Charlie Musselwhite on harmonica in two cuts and Nancy Wright on sax in five more songs With all these ingredients the album sounds fresh and natural but, at the same time, warm and passionate, showing the quality of all the musicians who played together on that really special night
