The quality of blues made in Spain is reaching levels of excellence, something that can be immediately realized listening to most of the albums that our bands are releasing nowadays. That is the case of the last recording coming from Johnny Bigstone & The Blues Workers simply entitled “Five”, that has just seen the light.

The band is led by Johnny Bigstone, at present a good singer and a versatile guitar player who knows all the secrets of West Coast and Jump Blues like no one else, but who can also perform Chicago or Texas blues with reliability, styles he develops with good taste, excellent technique and a precise approach. Backing him you will find a band of experienced musicians who totally know all blues secrets, like Artem Zhuliev on tenor and baritone sax, Little Jordi on double bass and Reginald Vilardell on drums.

In this last recording they have carefully selected eleven songs, four of them the band own compositions and the rest good versions of songs coming from musicians like Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown, Johnny Otis, Johnny “Guitar” Watson, T-Bone Walker, Ike Turner and Tiny Grimes/Charlie Parker, that round up a varied album, with interesting bright moments and good doses of technique and quality.

For all Texas and West Coast blues lovers, the album becomes a treasure to enjoy and savor, thanks to the good work of this excellent band who, with this recording, have set the bar really high.
