To enjoy the most genuine blues played by a magnificent singer and guitar player like John Primer, one of the last survivors of real deal Chicago Southside blues, is always a big privilege and a real pleasure for your ears and senses so, the new album Austrian label Wolf Records has just published, is not an exception After a long time without recording with his band, this new cd presents Primer with his musicians, the Real Deal Blues Band, formed by Melvin Smith on bass, (Koko Taylor and Lurrie Bell), Bill Lupkin on harmonica, who has played with the cream of Chicago bluesmen and Lenny Media on drums who, like Primer, was also member of Magic Slim’s band, The Teardrops The album combines standards like Forty Days And Forty Nights or Mannish Boy with other more dark and less known covers coming from people like Little Milton, Snooky Pryor, Howlin’ Wolf, Muddy Waters, Sonny Boy Williamson, Willie Dixon, Otis Spann, Jay McShann, St Louis Jimmy Oden or Albert King, even though the stamp of this great Chicago blues master called John Primer excels in every song, with a personal style and a special magic that makes him become one of the greatest perpetuators of fifties old blues Long life to John Primer and his musicians!
