When you have on hands a John Primer’s album, the first thing that comes to your mind is you are going to listen to real Chicago south side blues, which is certainly true But this time his new recording is a little bit different from what he normally plays, because the album introduces us his most unknown facet as a soul singer, like he did when he was starting his career in early seventies with The Brotherhood Band To do so he has selected some songs made popular by Bobby Blue Bland, Freddie King, Lloyd Price, Johnnie Taylor, Toussaint McCall, Brook Benton and Clarence Carter, together with other cuts more in accordance with Primer’s usual style, his legion of fans really love and deeply appreciate John’s guitar and voice sound strong and perfectly matched with Carey Bell’s son Steve Bell on harmonica, Ronnie Hicks on keyboards, Charlie Kimble on sax, Chuckaluck on bass and Lenny Media on drums, besides the special collaboration of Billy Flynn as second guitar Those lovers of the most genuine Chicago South Side blues always find in John Primer one of their most worshipped idols, because he is a real icon who deserves to be considered the original and ‘real deal’ of Chicago contemporary blues
