John Primer is one of Chicago’s sound real deal blues living legends. Born in Camden, Mississippi in 1945, he moved with his mother to Chicago in 1963 looking for a better life. The young John started to play on streets for tips, but he soon joined the bands of so recognized bluesmen like Junior Wells, Willie Dixon, Muddy Waters or Magic Slim until, later on, he led his own band, The Real Deal Blues Band, which now includes Steve Bell (Carey’s son) on harmonica, Dave Forte on bass and Lenny Media on drums.

After the lockdown period, John Primer presented a handful of songs to producer Rick Barnes, which were recorded at RaxTrax Studios in Chicago. This album gathers twelve of these blues signed by Primer, plus one song composed by his seventeen-year-old daughter Aliya Primer, who also debuts as a recording singer, something that makes John extremely proud because, in this way, the family saga goes on. The cd also includes two guest musicians like Johnny Iguana on piano and Rick Kreher on rhythm guitar.

As the album name suggests, it aims to reflect the hard times we are now living, but also how to overcome them by listening to the blues.

A full naked and genuine old time Chicago blues recording, with a real vintage sound, like the one that was performed during the sixties every night in all South Side clubs.
