Although John Mayall is now half-retired of big scenes and he only performs a few shows around California area where he has been living for decades, that does not mean that now, aged 88, he remains inactive and far away from blues.

This magnificent album he has just released proves it and shows that years do not go by, as he is in top form with a more than an enviable energy. To do so he has surrounded himself with an impressive cast of musicians that includes his usual backing band in recent years with Carolyn Wonderland on rhythm guitar and lead guitar too in the song “The Sun Is Shining In Down” that gives title to the album, Greg Rzab on bass and Jay Davenport on drums. Mayall has also counted with first class guest musicians who contribute to enhance an already intense and remarkable high quality album, such as guitar players Melvin Taylor, Marcus King, Buddy Miller and Mike Campbell, Scarlet Rivera on violin and the ukulele master Jake Shimabukuro. Also there is a horn section with Ron Dziubla saxos, Mark Pender trumpet and Richard A. Rosenberg trombone in some of the album songs. And, leading the whole project, Mr. John Mayall on vocals, Hammond B-3, Wurtlitzer piano and harmonica.

You will find ten contemporary blues songs, six of them Mayall’s own compositions and the other four coming from Tinsley Ellis, Roosevelt Sykes, Bernard Allison and Bobby Rush.

With this recording John Mayall confirms that, despite his age, he is still one of the most outstanding and greatest white blues musicians.
