Blues living legend and from more than five decades Father of British Blues, John Mayall comes back with a new album to delight us with all his musical knowledge which, as ever, is completely full of blues Despite his age, he is now 81 years old, his energy, devotion and passion for music has not yet diminished and this A Special Life is a good example The album has been recorded by four musicians, with John Mayall on vocals, piano, organ, guitar and harmonica, Texas guitar player Rocky Athas, Greg Rzab bass and percussion, Jay Davenport drums and the special collaboration of accordionist and singer CJ Chenier, son of the legendary zydeco and cajun musician Clifton Chenier The whole recording has a superb, elegant, calm and compact sound with the distinctive stamp Mayall always gives to his music Of the eleven compositions that have been included in the album, eight have been written by Mayall, Athas and Rzab, while the remaining three come from Clifton Chenier, Jimmy Rogers and Albert King In short words, this is a strong, restrained album, alien to the prevailing fashion of actual market trends It’s only blues, but i like it!
