Certainly the life of John Blues Boyd has been the one of a true blues pilgrim, as he has been and still is a real bluesman, of those that can barely be found now Born in 1945, when he was eight years old you could find him picking cotton on a plantation, at sixteen he marched with Martin Luther King and he had to run away from his city because he was threatened by the Ku Klus Klan who had put him in the spotlight All the album songs capture an important moment of the African-American people struggle for their civil rights, so they become true musical testimonials, performed with the feeling, passion, commitment and energy of a blues singer who has experienced all the difficult moments he describes in all song lyrics It is really impressive to listen to Boyd’s voice and stories, perfectly backed by the excellent guitar player and producer Kid Andersen and his deluxe group, The Greaseland Band This is a high-carat, heavy-weight album, where the true blues is displayed in an intense but, at the same time, restrained way in every one of the eleven impressive songs that give shape to the recording
