Long John Baldry was one of the greatest names and historical musicians who, at the end of the fifties, contributed to make blues well known in the United Kingdom, together with some other mythic artist like Chris Farlowe or Alexis Kerner. John also discovered, at the beginning of the sixties, one of the most popular British pop artists, great vocal talent Rod Stewart who, at that time, was a street blues singer. Baldry offered him a to sing on ‘The Steampacket’ band and he immediately accepted. Many times John acted as catalyst among different British rhythm & blues musicians who belonged to John’s own band or went to the terrific jam sessions at legendary Marquee Club. The first cd belongs to 1971 and “Everything Stops For Tea” to 1972. Two splendid albums where you will find many blues on them but also seventies English pop with ‘Americana’ music deep influences, full of high creativity. Rod Stewart and Elton John were in charge of final production and played in some tunes. You will also find some surprises among the backing musicians such as Ron Wood on guitar and Rod Stewart on banjo too…. Simply amazing!!! Two historical outstanding reissues where passion, feeling and powerful performing come together to catch the audience with two basic pillars of Long John Baldry’s recording career, who will be always on mind of those of us who deeply admire his great work and amazing honesty.
