Singer and guitar player Jimmy Burns was born in Dublin, Mississippi, in 1943 There he received his first blues influences from Muddy Waters or John Lee Hooker recordings In the middle of the fifties he migrated to Chicago, the right place to promote the kind of music he was playing, a mixture of traditional blues with gospel feeling and the sophisticated pop and rhythm & blues of that time Although Jimmy has done a musical career of about forty years with countless gigs and different recordings, it was not until he signed for Delmark Records in the middle of the nineties, when he became popular among wide audiences At present Burns blues are a combination of pure Chicago style with original classic funk music The DVD gathers some of his latest songs recorded live from legendary BLUES Club in Halsted, Chicago His spontaneous playing bears with the good atmosphere and feeling he communicates along his show An excellent work, mixing his own songs with some Elmore James, BB King and Little Walter versions to complete fourteen tracks and more tha seventy minutes of intense Chicago West Side blues Don’t miss it!
