From his very younger days, singer, guitar player and songwriter Jimmie Bratcher was caught by twelve bar blues. He began playing in various bands he was soon fired by his lack of commitment but also by his abuse of alcohol and drugs that almost destroyed his life. Fortunately, her partner Sherri, who had also suffered from her first husband addiction, convinced her to go to church to get married and, from that particular moment, Jimmie’s life radically changed. He abandoned drugs and become a church minister, devoting all his efforts to religion and music. With a repertoire of more than two hundred compositions, Jimmie Bratcher now publishes his twelfth recording with twelve songs that have as common denominator what has been called soul food, which is the most traditional food and music coming from Afro-American culture. Rooted in Kansas City blues, titles like “Mama Won’t Fry No Chicken”, “Bacon Is On My Mind”, “Green Bananas” or “Grits Ain’t Groceries” give us a clear idea of what you will find in this album, with the blues like the musical common thread, without forgetting the magnificent composition and performance displayed by a bunch of excellent musicians like Jimmie Bratcher on guitar and vocals, Aaron Mayfield to keyboards, Craig Kew on bass and Terry Hancock on drums, plus the valuable contribution of some high quality guest musicians.
