Ambitious and well displayed project of singer, guitarist and songwriter Jim Allchin, who has done a creative splendid album. Thirteen sophisticated and perfectly matched songs, based on a personal mixture of jazz, blues, rock, and even tender ballads, as well as Texas shuffles and rockin’ swamp blues Jim mastery knows, all performed with virtuoso deep guitar solos. Allchin incorporates a wide variety of tones and registers to his guitar, with a dirty or clean playing depending on what is requested in every song. He also has a fine exquisite technique and the lyrics he has written show a deep poetical feeling, something that at first sight might seem opposite to the music he plays. All the musicians who collaborate are first class ones, and give to the album a cool clean bright sound, besides showing a great unconditional commitment and a high motivation. Chris Leighton and Ben Smith on drums, Garey Shelton bass, Ty Bailie and David Gross keyboards, Colin Pulkrabek trombone, Josh Gailey trumpet, Scott McPherson tenor sax, The New York Brass and the backing voices of Martin Ros, Mycle Wastman and Keely Whitney as well as Jim Allchin himself on guitar and vocals round up a faultless colorful album.
