Like many other blues and jazz singers, Jewel Brown began singing when she was a small girl at her local church choir and, when she was only twelve years old, she started her professional career. During the sixties Jewel already performed in many and diverse clubs around the country, many of them owned by Jack Ruby.

Jewel became known worldwide for her work in Louis Armstrong’s band, The His All-Star Band, where she played from 1961 to 1968, the year that Armstrong fell seriously ill. Jewel Brown followed her career as singer, although unfortunately, in the early seventies, she had to retire from music to take care of her old and sick parents. However, she never left the music world, participating in countless projects with other colleagues, something she combined with her work as an insurance agent and other professional tasks.

Despite it, both music industry and fans have never forgotten her and, over the years, she has received various recognitions and awards.

But the story does not end here. Today, and with more than eighty years behind her shoulders, Brown comes back to the show business front line with an album that includes ten Jewell’s own compositions, all displayed with an enviable strength, an amazing groove and an undeniable swing. Jewel Brown is backed by an excellent band which helps to enhance the remarkable vocal skills of this soul and blues diva and the whole project you have on hands.
