Formed in Horsens, Denmark, initially on a trio format to play regularly at the Eydes Kælder club every Saturday afternoon, JB & The Hüggeli got soon an amazing success, starting to perform in other venues, different events and various festivals. In 2020 they released their first album “Thank You Blues” which gave them fame and popularity.

Now they publish their second release that includes eleven own compositions inspired by Texas and Chicago blues with some touches of jump blues, that certainly will be a step forward in their career.

One of the album songs “Not From Texas” has a story the band wants to share with listeners. During the 2022 European tour of the famous guitar player Alan Haynes, he stopped in Horsens. Singer, guitar player and JB & The Hüggeli’s leader, Jesper Bjarnesen, was invited to play with Alan. For such a special occasion Jesper composed the song “Not From Texas”. It is a tribute to Texas blues, to places like Antone’s and the artists who played there and particularly to Alan Haynes. Alan was delighted with the song, and he offered to play and record it with them for the album. So, the famous 1962 Fender Stratocaster “Red” that once belonged to Steve Ray Vaughan and Alan is the owner now, can be found in the recording.

The other album songs also confirm the band’s good work, which includes Jesper Bjarnesen on vocals, guitar and harmonica, Josef Baumgartner on piano and organ, Hanse Jensen on tenor sax, Jais K. Eriksen on bass and Oscar “Big O” Eriksen on drums, plus the collaboration of a six musician’s horn section on three songs.

With bands like this one, it is confirmed that blues is in very good health in Europe. You can check it by listening to the recording, that confirms these musicians’ class and skills.
