A delicious album, I have most enjoyed during the last weeks Although he is 91 years old, McShann shows he is in top form, not only in his piano playing but showing he still keeps his special vocal tone Gifted with the original subtle style of Kansas City piano players, Jay McShan gives us his usual piano phrasing with melodic lines full of vitalist refinement Jay really enjoys himself and knows how to transmit his joy to the rest of the band musicians The spirit of thirties and forties jazz, swing, jump, stomps, blues, strides and boogie-woogie is alive along the whole cd, recorded live at ‘Montreal Bistro’ in Toronto, Canada You will immediately realize it was done on a relaxed atmosphere full of friendship and good vibrations There is also an interesting forty-four minutes interview Hootie Blues is… a fantastic record!
