One of the most prominent voices of contemporary American-roots-music scene like singer Janiva Magness, comes back to the first line of the recording scene with this new work entitled Love Is An Army that makes number fourteen published till now In this recording Janiva builds up a bridge between the past and the present, blending the classic soul and country music with a very actual and, at the same time, vindictive sound The album gathers twelve songs filled with Memphis rhythm & blues that, sometimes could bring to the mind the old Stax sound, as in the songs Back To Blue or Hammer, this last one with the special collaboration of legendary harmonica player Charlie Musselwhite Nashville music is also present in the song On And On, where you will find a delightful pedal steel performed by Rusty Young Besides her own band, Janiva has counted with some deluxe guests like Delbert McClinton on vocals, Cedric Burnside on guitar, Courtney Hartman on banjo and Phil Parlipiano on piano Surrounded by all these musicians, the voice of Janiva Magness excels in its own right, displaying an amazing palette of nuances that give exquisite vivid colours to the whole album
