Jake Lear is a vitalistic musician who displays his material with intensity and energy He also leads his musical journey with softness and sweetness, always putting the stress on good taste and feeling and even including a baroque touch Lear sings, composes and writes the eight cd songs and the true thing is they sound completely convincing Jake Lear guitar and vocals, Roy Cunningham drums and the Spanish musician Carlos Arias on bass form a skillful good teamed and combative trio The final result could be described as a mixture of syncopated rhythms, strongly influenced by Junior Wells and Jimmy Reed shuffles If you add a series of dark penetrating rhythms or mantras, syncopated and hypnotic in the path of John Lee Hooker’s ones, together with some distinctive touches like ‘crackles & pops’, similar to Bob Dylan’s dragged music, then you will have a good definition for this album, that precisely is called Diamonds & Stones
