Sixteen songs recorded between 1975 and 1996 give shape to this album. Their leadership is shared by three Howlin’ Wolf’s band musicians of those years, like sax, harmonica player and singer Eddie Shaw who opens the recording with five songs “Highway 61 Bound”, “Fannie Mae Jones”, “Built For Comfort”, “Little Red Rooster” and “Got To Go Now” recorded in Chicago between 1992 and 1996. The next artist is Howlin’ Wolf himself who brings the songs “Big House”, “Take A Walk With Me”, “Laid Down Last Night”, “After A While” and “Don’t Deceive Me”, recorded live from the New 1815 Club between July 25 and 27, 1975. The album follows on with piano player and singer Detroit Junior who delights us with “Call My Job”, “Race Track” and “You’ve Been Laid”, two of them recorded in Chicago in 1994 and the other one in Vienna in 1978. Finally, the man who became Wolf’s right hand, guitar player Hubert Sumlin, puts the end to this magnificent album with the songs “You Can’t Change Me”, “No Place To Go” and “I’ve Been Gone” recorded in Chicago in 1991, including different musicians.

All these recordings belong to the private collection of Hannes Folterbauer, owner of Austrian label Wolf Records. Like many blues lovers, Hannes deeply admired Wolf and he even named his record label with Howlin’s name.

As an anecdote let me say that the same year 1975 when Hannes recorded Howlin’ Wolf live, the Stones played in Chicago and they sent some tickets to Wolf and his wife to go, see and listen to their show, besides renting a limousine that drove them directly to the event and also including a backstage pass. In return, Wolf and his wife invited the Stones to dinner at their home, although only Bill Wyman and his son Stephen came to Wolf’s home but, according to Wyman himself, they enjoyed an unforgettable night.
