This is the last and most complete compilation-reissue of this jump-blues MASTERPIECE that a West Coast white musicians band has ever recorded The Hollywood Fats Band represented (with permission of Rod Piazza, Gary Smith and very few other names) the historical begining of a new musical style that came up in California at the end of the sixties with the mixture of ‘jump’ with the Chicago blues that George ‘Harmonica’ Smith took with him when he moved to that area of the United States This is a reissue of the original 1979 recordings where Hollywood Fats was really at the peak of his musical career, performing bright agressive original solos that have been longly imitated or even literally copied in sound and phrasing by later guitar players There must also be mentioned two additional surprises you will have if you get this reissue First you will find the comic strip that illustrated the original Lp and second the box includes two cds on it, one with the complete original album and the other one with some previously unissued songs and some alternative tracks that were rejected during that recording session This double cd is really valuable for all electric blues lovers, not only for the historical value, great quality and intense recording strenght but overall because the most truly blues feeling can be found along the two hours recording And the band? Hollywood Fats on guitar, Al Blake on vocals and harp, Fred Kaplan on piano, Larry Taylor on double bass and Richard Innes on drums Can you ask for more? Thanks to Crosscut Records and thanks to Detlev Hoegen to give us a real treasure
