Guy Davis is not only a singer but he also plays guitar, banjo, harmonica and tambourine, as well as having developed a remarkable actor career. He discovered the blues thanks to his grandparents who told him southern stories and performed Delta old blues, although the family lived in New York. A self-taught musician, he has combined his work as a musician and composer with his actor career, participating in many Broadway musicals and he has also written some theater plays. Coming back to music, many of his recordings have received awards and recognitions, so his career has not stopped to grow. He has collaborated on compilations by Charley Patton or Robert Johnson, besides working with The Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan, Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne or Bruce Springsteen. This last recording is a mostly acoustic album with thirteen Davis’ own compositions that drive us from the most rural blues to folk with a touch of Americana, where Davis recites with conviction some suggestive lyrics, wrapped by a proper music with the collaboration, among others, of musicians like Professor Louie on keyboards, John Platania on electric and acoustic guitars, Christopher James on acoustic guitar and 6-string banjo or Mark Murphy on double bass or cello. A deep intimate album that sometimes turns to a little bit raw and hard.
