From the distant land of Bulgaria in the eastern centre of Europe, come this duo with Nicolai Tanev (Guitar Nick) on guitar and vocals and lawyer Alexander Donchev (Blue Al) on harp As title says, the cd is a tribute to great master Robert Johnson, but you will not only find Johnson’s compositions in the cd, as It also includes Leroy Carr’s or Willie Dixon’s songs among some Nicolai and Alexander own compositions Tribute… sounds cool, polished and reflects an enormous instrumental quality Both guitar and harp have a clean warm sound and Blue Al shows a subtle bright technique with an ease colorful playing His acoustic style becomes quite close to Phil Wiggin’s who he greatly admires A good range of different tempos are cleverly combined in this acoustic curious cd, especially because it comes from Bulgaria, a country where I would have never thought you could listen to blues or heard it played ‘live’
