Multi-talented musician Gerry Hundt comes back with “One More For Me”, a release credited with his trio that totally dives into the roots of blues and some similar styles.

Recorded live at a studio in Luxembourg, the album precisely captures a totally honest atmosphere completely free of modern gimmick, something that genre purists will deeply appreciate from the very first bars. The immediate energy and tight chemistry that appears among Gerry Hundt, bass player Renaud Lesire and drummer Tom Lehnert are on full display in high-octane tracks like “Strange Things Happening” and the playful instrumental “Pimenta”.

However, and despite Hundt’s flawless technical delivery and his evident mastery in mandolin, harmonica, guitar and vocals, the record settles into an excessive traditional comfort zone. Although the album delivers more than a good dose of groove, boogie and countryside genuineness, it suffers from a certain lack of risk-taking and songwriting innovation. “One More For Me” works very well as a nostalgic homage and a love letter to the classic sounds of his home city, but it stops just short of offering any truly memorable surprises or elements that go beyond what the genre’s most devoted enthusiasts already expect. This is by no means to say it is not a remarkable and highly enjoyable recording but, as a whole, it remains somewhat predictable.
