Founder of Saffire-The Uppity Blues Women trio, in recent years Gaye Adegbalola has started a solo career with the aim to make known and report some of the social and political injustices she feels concerned about For this reason the blues she performs have evolved to some more African roots, but she also includes genuine blues songs like Dirty Sheets, that drives us to the real blues tradition Her lyrics talk about hypocrisy, sexism, female genital mutilation, poverty, pollution, freedom, betrayal or love Now and aged seventy four, Gaye feels completely legitimized to express her vision of life, her thoughts and her most sincere wishes All those feelings can be found along the seventeen songs that round up this recording where, besides singing, playing acoustic guitar and harmonica, this last instrument she learned from The Nighthawks band member Mark Wenner, Gaye is surrounded by a roster of musicians who have totally understood and captured her musical and poetical language
