Gary Nicholson is a prestigious composer, winner of a Grammy and other awards, who has composed music for great artists belonging to various musical genres like country (Willie Nelson), blues (B.B. King), pop (Ringo Starr), rock (Fleetwood Mac), folk (John Prine), bluegrass (Del McCoury) or Americana (Guy Clark). His work includes more than 700 songs recorded in collaboration with countless musicians and artists. Some of his compositions have also been featured in films like the song “Falling And Flying” from the movie “Crazy Heart” with Jeff Bridges in the main role and with an Oscar for that film.
With these credentials and the experience, he has got devoting practically his whole life to compose songs that have contributed to the American culture, it becomes clear that all his solo albums never disappoint. Now he comes with his last recording “Common Sense” which, as its title shows, wants to point out the political polarity and the division that his country is now suffering, he displays in a humorous and hopeful way, making a call for common sense. Not surprisingly, Gary is a firm believer in the power of music to bring people together, as well as to move and entertain audiences.
The album includes twelve own compositions where blues and American roots music go hand in hand, on a well-chosen really pleasant repertoire. The band includes Gary Nicholson on vocals, electric and acoustic guitar, Kevin McKendree on piano and organ, Jim Hoke on harmonica, dobro, sax and steel guitar, James Pennebaker on electric and acoustic guitar, Mike Joyce on bass and Lynn Williams on drums. Together with them, a good number of guests like, among others, Anson Funderburgh, Yates McKendree, Colin Linden, Rick Vito or The McCrary Sisters, contribute to give a bright atmosphere to a colorful joyful album, pleasant to listen to.
