Legendary French record label Dixiefrog Records has recently started a new and fruitful chapter, promoting a series of French musicians who deserve blues lovers’ attention. They are also releasing a collection entitled “Dixiefrog Live Series” that gathers different live performances by various French musicians.

This time they present a double CD by singer and guitar player Fred Chapellier, recorded live in Paris at the Jazz Club Etoile.

For those who are not familiar with him, mention that Fred Chapellier started to play as a drummer, but soon he decided to devote himself to guitar, practicing for hours and hours until he got the sound he was looking for. He soon decided he wanted to play blues, which was the music he had always listened at home since childhood. In 1999 he formed his own band and, since then on, he has not stopped working, besides publishing several albums like “Fred Chapellier & Friends – A Tribute To Roy Buchanan” where he pays tribute to his great idol Roy Buchanan, including musicians like Tom Principato, Neal Black, Miguel M, Leadfoot Rivet or Billy Price (Roy Buchanan’s band singer between 1972 and 1976)

Now these two CDs confirm Fred’s quality and are a good example of the way he conceives the blues, with an impressive development on guitar along the sixteen songs included, most of them own compositions or written in collaboration with Billy Price, without forgetting some versions like “Rodney’s Song” coming from Roy Buchanan or “Love That Burns” and “If You Be My Baby” by Peter Green.

In that live show Fred Chapellier was surrounded by guitar players Jérémie Tepper and Patrick Baldran, sax players Michel Gaucher and Pierre D’Angelo, trumpet player Eric Mula, bassist Christophe Garreau and drummer Gillaume Destarac.

All the magic of a live show can be found in this double CD. A real pleasure to enjoy and peacefully savor all songs.
