In year 2017 Eugene Hideaway Bridges was honoured by the Jus’ Blues Music Foundation in the Albert King Lifetime Award category with the award ‘The Lucy Award’ in recognition of his lifetime contribution to the blues Inspired by this award and in memory of his father Othineil Bridges Sr, known as Hideaway Slim, Eugene has published this new work for Armadillo records In this new recording Eugene comes back to his roots even though he has never forgotten them, getting back those songs he learned when he was a child and he used to sit on his home front porch with his father, discovering and practicing those old blues songs that were part of his grandparents legacy Many of those songs were performed live on 11 August 2017 at the historic Bradfordville Blues Club in Tallahassee, Florida and now give shape and substance to this album As usual Eugene Hideaway Bridges’ voice and guitar sound fresh, passionate and honest, well supported by David Webb on piano and organ, Kelpie McKenzie on bass and Pat Manske on drums Real blues does not need sophistication when it is played from the heart Eugene understands it and deeply expresses it in this album Could we ask for more?
