I must admit I am a great fan of Ernie Hawkins’ music, an artist who always deeply touches my heart Ernie is one of the best representants of actual white blues, ragtime and acoustic gospel, if you can distinguish from black or white music when you talk about these genuine acoustic styles Hawkins is superb as singer and guitar player He is an honest great musician, who plays twenties and thirties styles with a gentle love and restrained passion, and a mastery knowledge of ‘fingerspickin’ technique as few artists today have and I can say he is a true master in this art Do not forget Ernie directly learned from Reverend Gary Davis and for a long time he worked with Son House, Mance Lipscomb and Mississippi Fred McDowell Fourteen jewels have been included in this album with some Ernie’s own songs and others coming from Big Bill Broonzy, Little Brother Montgomery, Jelly Roll Morton, Louis Armstrong, Gary Davis or Irving Berlin Gary Davis among others Enjoy with guitar, ukelele, washboard, clarinet, tuba, trombone, trumpet, harmonica by Ernie Hawkins and his musicians in this lovely essential album that deserves a place in your record collection
