Gifted with an extreme sensibility, Ernie Hawkins drives us in his new cd to east coast Afroamerican music roots, that is to say, from the Carolines to Georgia, Florida and Alabama. Ernie is an splendid singer and a great guitar player so, once again, he shows us his big love and respect for artists like Reverend Gary Davis in versions like ‘Make Relieve Stunt’, ‘Can’t Be Satisfied’ and ‘I’m The Light Of This World’ or Mance Lipscomb in rags like ‘G Rag’. But this is not all because he also pays homage to Blind Willie McTell, Henry Thomas, Jimmie Rodgers, Louis Armstrong or Mississippi John Hurt, respectfully performed but including some own arrangements that enhance and give fresh air to the originals. In short words, an album that should call your attention.
