Even before she could read and write Elly Wininger already listened to those old 78 rpm records her parents had as a valuable treasure at home, with artists like Vera Hall, Blind Willie Johnson or Leadbelly among others. Although she had no idea about that kind of music it was or the musicians who played it, she felt a deep attraction for those old records. When she finished her studies she settled in Greenwich Village where she discovered and saw Lightnin’ Hopkins, Muddy Waters, Mississippi John Hurt, Dave Van Ronk, John Hammond or even her music teacher at that time, David Bromberg.

Her opportunity came in 1973 when she was booked to play at the Philadelphia Folk Festival with Maria Muldaur. Since then on Elly has gradually become a good performer and a real expert in country blues, folk and traditional music, also gathering influences from styles like cajun, ragtime or country.

In this last album Elly Wininger develops and performs with her personal distinctive stamp four own compositions and she also brings back to a new life nine versions of artists like Skip James, Tony Joe White, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Blind Willie Johnson, Texas Alexander or Huddie Ledbetter to, in this way, show the richness and musical variety of these styles, for listeners pleasure and enjoyment.
