I was looking forward to the new work of this ‘ace’, who, for many years, hs been and still is one of the greatest names representing Chicago West Side guitar sound The result has completely satisfied my expectations Eddy Clearwater now is one of the most active musicians of Chicago scene, with more than 25o shows per year He began his musical career in the fifties and fifty years later he is still playing regularly He has survived most of his best friends, blues fellows and reputed bluesmen like Magic Sam, Freddie King or Luther Allison Eddy brings a cd with twelve powerful vigorous songs, he sings on a passionate expressive way I have not heard him from years It seems like all the nominations and the awards he has received during the last years have given him new hopes, get success but overall convince the audience The Chief gives the best of himself on West Side Strut where he combines different influences from Chuck Berry he deeply admires, to the most passionate raw swamp blues and, of course, West Side Chicago blues he mastery plays An special mention to Ronnie Baker, Lonnie Brooks’ son, who shares cd and success with Eddy shinning at a very high level What a pleasure!
