Singer, composer and guitar player Eddie Van Shaw, son of Chicago blues saxo player and singer Eddie Shaw, presents two self produced albums, where he wants to show his own musical style, far away of what he used to do as guitar player at his father’s band Actual blues, built over solid basis and rich instrumentation is what he gives us on The Trail of Tears, a cd full of delightful magic moments and instrumental qualitty where Eddie shows his good taste and guitar playing abilities Sid Wingfield at piano also gives a superb playing as he always does when he is invited to play in any blues recording The second cd is even conceived under a most contemporary aspect, arrangements have been carefully done and, in general, the cd looks as a more ambitious piece of work Eddie Van Shaw gives a bright inspired playing and, although apparently the second cd seems a more ambitious work, final production does not reach the same level than the first cd Some guest musicians play in both cds, like John Primer on guitar, Chris Sanders on harp, or Lafayette Gilbert on bass Two good albums to be taken into account by actual Chicago blues fans
