Singer, guitar player and occasionally harmonica player Eddie Kirkland was born in Kingston, Jamaica in 1928. He grew up in Alabama and in 1944 he settled in Detroit, where after a few years, he became a reference musician of the Motor City sound. He worked at different clubs with John Lee Hooker for some years and, during the following decades, he gained a reputation of excellent showman and versatile musician. He was able to mix with great personality, the original rhythm & blues he had learned touring with Ruth Brown, Little Richard, Ben E King, Otis Redding and Johnny Taylor, with the most deep down home blues you can imagine

“Democrat Blues” was recorded in autumn 2002. Eddie was able to capture on it the magic and feeling of his own music, giving them to the audience, on a simple but, at the same time, effective right way, with the support of a bunch of musicians who perfeftly understood and respected him, who were Dave Ray on guitar, Fuzzy Samuels on bass and Andre Wright on drums.
