With this new release Duke Robillard has made true one of his most ambitious projects, to record an album featuring some female voices in a selection of songs coming from the 20’s and 30’s, where swing can be found in every single note, backed by Duke’s himself on acoustic guitar, a simple but wonderful horn section with a superb sound and a solid able rhythm section All of them dignify and magnify an elegant well selected repertoire To find the songs that have been included in the album Robillard dived into the ‘American songbook’ and the old Tin Pan Alley melodies, looking for songs that were not popular or well known ones but that could communicate a good dose of swing and a bluesy atmosphere The ladies chosen to give their singing art to this album are Catherine Russell, Elizabeth McGovern, Kelley Hunt, Madeleine Peyroux, Maria Muldaur and Sunny Crownover This is a tasteful, melodic and lovely recording you can hardly ignore
