A so distant country from us as Finland, always surprises us with interesting blues groups that show their good knowledge of the style.

This is the case of Dr. Helander & The Third Ward, formed with three veteran musicians who communicate all their knowledge, not only in their performance but also in composition, as well as the musical potential each of them treasure.

Ten own compositions give shape to an album where they give free rein to an aggressive, hard and gritty style that sometimes looks like power blues and other times reminds the deep naked North Mississippi Hill Country Blues music. This combination makes them become a totally effective band endowed with an unquestionable strength.

With this album they celebrate their eight years together, so they show a remarkable and fruitful chemistry among them, making their songs sound thick and flawless.

Ilkka Helander sings with a furious and wild voice, besides playing guitar and bass, Esa Kulonemi is also endowed with an aggressive voice and his guitar playing perfectly matches with his voice and the whole band sound, while Leevi Leppänen is on drums and provides the necessary strength and rhythm to all songs. For the album hey have counted with the special collaboration of young harmonica player Jantso Jokelin who became internationally known at the European Blues Challenge in 2025, together with Panu Syrjänen and William Suvanne on sax.

Referred in their country as “the supergroup of Finnish blues”, with this recording they confirm their quality and firmly introduce themselves at an international level.
