Born in Crystal Springs, Mississippi, singer, bass and guitar player Dexter Allen began playing bass at the age of twelve in his parents’ gospel band. He was really lucky and soon he started touring the world as lead guitar player for Bobby Rush’ band, as well as conducting the jams at Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival and legendary Rhythm & Blues Cruise. This allowed him to get a huge experience that helped him to decide to form his own band where he was able to give free rein to his creativity, as he had not to stick to the rules imposed by other musicians and, in this way, express his passionate determined way of singing, together with the magical warm sound he always draws from his guitar, showing that his deep influences come from musicians like Buddy Guy or Eric Clapton. Although Dexter Allen is well known in soul music circles, now he wants to come back to his roots, so he has decided to release an album with a repertoire that moves between blues and gospel, without leaving aside soul music and rhythm and blues, with a selection of eleven own compositions, where he wants to share his personal experiences, his triumphs and failures and, of course, the hope of a better life that surely will come back when you have something that catches and allows you to fight for, as is the case of this great musician called Dexter Allen.
