As Robert Johnson made a pact with the devil to become the best blues guitar player, David Owen also made it with Bob Dylan half a century later on another crossroads and at midnight too. David was walking home from a club where he had spent all his money listening to blues and drinking a little bit too much. He was wondering if he should go to the University as his parents wanted or devote himself to his passion which was playing blues. He was thinking about at a crossroads asking God for his future, when suddenly a car stopped with its radio blaring Bob Dylan’s song “Like a Rolling Stone”. Then he heard Dylan’s harsh voice coming from inside the car and telling him, “If you ain’t got nothing, you got nothing to lose!” When the driver said, “Go up,” Owen did not hesitate for a single second. Months later, he was in Toronto, working as a dishwasher and playing his music in clubs, bars and street corners.

Since then on, Owen has built up a solid career becoming a powerful persuasive guitarist and a raw gritty harmonica player deeply influenced by both Little Walter and Bob Dylan, two opposite styles Owen knows how to take advantage of and successfully combine. He has also modulated his voice and today he sings with reliability the most genuine country blues, besides working and collaborating with such great names like Paul James, Downchild Blues Band, Dave Van Ronk or John Hammond among others.

All that can be found in this album he has devoted to his wife who died in a tragic accident in 2015, something that made Owen to retire from music until now, when, fortunately he has come back. Eleven songs where you will also find Colin Linden on guitar, Dominic Davis on double bass, Fats Kaplin on violin and, of course, David Owen’s voice, guitar and harmonica, all performed with an intensity and passion that show his love and knowledge of country blues.
