Actually few blues musicians perform piano blues and boogie-woogie. However, in Spain there are some excellent artists who develop these styles with an outstanding taste and high quality and, certainly, one of them is Barcelona piano player David Giorcelli.

David has an excellent beat and a really effective attack that makes him be a more than a remarkable blues and boogie piano player, who is appreciated not only in Spain but also internationally. Today his fame has crossed borders and both with Ster Wax (Wax & Boogie) or with his own trio (David Giorcelli Trio), he performs regularly all over Spain as well as in various European countries.

As a matter of fact, this album has been recorded live from one of the most recognized blues clubs in Paris, the legendary Caveau de la Huchette, where some of best blues piano players like Memphis Slim, to only mention an example, used to play and where Giorcelli performs regularly. From the shows he did there with his trio between 4 and 7 May, 2022, he has chosen eleven songs, most of them versions of great classics, which allow us to savor the versatility, knowledge and excellent technique our man treasures.

Giorcelli’s piano stands out with strength in each song, but he also sings in five cuts. Superb are also “Little Jordi” Abad on double bass, Albert Escudero on drums and the collaboration of Drew Davies on tenor sax, who attack the songs as a perfect oiled engine. Finally mention Vicente Zúmel’s contribution on vocals in the song “Keep On Drinkin'” coming from Little Brother Montgomery, Zúmel makes it as its own, developing it with the same passion and intensity as when he was an active musician.

A recording to enjoy, savor and dance with David Giorcelli’s incendiary piano playing. VERY GOOD.
