Excellent technical, knowledge, good taste and mastery display which ends on a very satisfactory result is what you can see on a dvd of one of most interesting guitar players of contemporary Chicago blues scene Dave Specter gives us a selection of thirteen songs, performed at two of the most important Windy City clubs The first eight ones belong to his show at Buddy Guy’s Blues Legends on August 21st 2007 and the other five songs were filmed the previous night (August 20th 2007) at Chicago West Side Rosa’s Blues Lounge Dave Specter gives mastery performings with priceless moments of bluesy high tension and inspired beautiful phrasing from his Epiphone guitar he produces a bright polish vivid sound The chosen songs give a varied selection of styles, from Chicago blues to funky, soul, groove and some jazz too He is surrounded by de-luxe guest musicians, who contribute to complete a high quality faultless cd –in this case a dvd- Ted Robinson sings and gives a powerful harmonica playing in three bright intense songs, What Love Did To Me, How I Got To Memphis and What’s Your Angle? The likable always fine singer and guitar player Jimmy Johnson confers his cool attractive soul-blues style to Out On The Road, Feel So Bad and the impressive Willie Cobbs’ song You Don’t Love Me The last but not least guest musician is Sharon Lewis, performing three songs from Rosa’s Lounge with an expansive deep great voice, In Too Deep, Every Goodbye Ain’t Gone an Angel All these songs perfectly combine with amazing own Specter’s instrumental songs In both sets he is backed by Brother John Kattke on keyboards, his habitual band bass player Harlan Terson and Marty Binder on drums Both cd and dvd Live in Chicago give us the real, original truly music and artistic qualities of one of the greatest icons of modern Chicago blues guitar players of the latest years blues scene Please, enjoy it!
