It is a pleasant surprise to find nowadays such an amazing piano player and singer like Dave Keyes, who is not anchored in old time blues but instead he gives us a cosmopolitan vision of the genre Keyes performs an extremely effective and actual repertoire, especially devoted to new century listeners To do so, Keyes has surrounded himself with a bunch of high-level guest musicians he usually plays with, like Popa Chubby, Rob Paparozzi, Vaneese Thomas, Arthur Neilson (Shemekia Copeland) and Alexis P Suter The rest of musicians who play in these recordings are Frank Pagano and Steve Rushton on drums, David J Keyes on bass and a 30 voices choir named The Brooklyn Interdenominational Choir who collaborate in one song The album includes nine Dave’s own songs plus two covers, one coming from Sister Rosetta Tharpe and another one by Robert Johnson All songs move along a varied range of rhythms and sounds, from shuffles to hypnotic boogies, high quality rhythm and blues, rockin’ piano blues, gospel, Bo Diddley’s beats or the most contemporary blues, all them with the personal stamp of a singer and piano player who really knows to musically empathize with all listeners who will be pleasantly surprised and impressed by his music
