Cotton Roots is a Brcelona trio formed specifically to play and give visibility to old dark covers coming from some of their most admired Afroamerican blues heroes of early and middle last century years Cotton Roots are Johnny Pérez acoustic guitar, resonator and vocals, Little Jordi harmonics and acoustic bass and Reginald Vilardell drums and washboard, all of them members of other Barcelona blues groups In this Going To The River includes thirteen songs, two coming from Blind Boy Fuller, three by Big Bill Broozy and the rest versions of songs from Ma Rainey, Blind Blake, Cephas & Wiggins, Fats Domino, Mance Lipscomb, Son House, Robert Pete Williams plus the traditional John Henry The trio approaches the songs with an enormous respect for the originals, they perfectly control the tempos, besides doing pretty good guitar and harmonica phrasing They are also gifted with a special sensitivity to perform them The three musicians are familiar with the music they play, thay are also highly efficient performers and have all got the feeling of those who passionately live the blues Cotton Roots are good… very good… I promise it!!
