Charles Wilson is one of those singers that never disappoint his faithful fans His voice is passionate intense and acute but, at the same time, sweet and sugary with a sensual touch that can be found on his songs, a mixture of southern soul with Tamla, Atlantic and Stax arrangements This is what you find in all his records and, of course, If Heartaches Were Nickels published by greatly esteemed Delmark records, is not an exception Keith Federman has written a complete biographical inner cd notes Delmark owner, Bob Koester, has carefully produced and directed Wilson’s work, doing his best to make him shine at a very high level He has been helped by a bunch of amazing backing musicians, such as his uncle Little Milton on guitar, Carl Weathersby on guitar too, Nick Charles on bass, James Ticket on piano and keyboards and Brian ‘BJ’ Jones on drums A new effective well done Charles Wilson record that follows the rhythm & blues and southern south path he normally does but with better arrangements than on his previous cds recorded for Ecko and Ichiban Our welcome to the ‘Crown Prince of Soul’, that is to say Mr Charles Wilson
