Carolyn Wonderland is a very versatile singer and guitar player who displays styles like blues, contemporary soul, Tex-Mex or rock & roll, always with a remarkable conviction and quality.

Born in Texas in 1972 in a house full of musical instruments, when she was only eight, she decided she would devote her life to music. After her mother forbade her to play with a pick after she smashed a vintage guitar by imitating Pete Townsend, Carolyn turned to learn fingerpicking guitar, developing an aggressive and very powerful technique. At the age of 15 she began to play regularly, sharing stage with artists like Levon Helm, Buddy Guy, Hubert Sumlin or Bob Dylan until, in 2018, John Mayall called her to play with him, becoming the first woman John put in his band

Later, she began a solo career and in 2021 she recorded her first album for Alligator Records. Now she presents a new one for Alligator too, with twelve songs, ten of them Carolyn’s own compositions, performed with an impressive energy and, at the same time, with an undeniable honesty that confirms the quality and sensitivity Carolyn gives to each song. Her lyrics are also revelatory and show the skills of an artist who knows how to communicate feelings like hope or the natural life simplicity, that, at the same time, show a restrained rage when she faces different injustices one should not remain insensitive.

Carolyn creates a very special magic in each of her songs, making them personal and different that, together with her explosive guitar and her powerful voice, make this album a real interesting one for all good music lovers.

Carolyn’s guitar and vocals are backed by Naj Conklin on bass and double bass and Giovanni “Nooch” Carnuccio on drums and percussion. They are joined by several excellent guests like, among others, Dave Alvin on guitar in four tracks, Ruthie Foster on vocals in two tracks, Marcia Ball on vocals in three songs and piano in one track, Cindi Cashdollar on lap steel guitar in two tracks, or keyboardists Red Young, Bukka Allen and Henri Herbert.
