Splendid tribute to the late greatest contemporary Chicago blues blowers who unfortunately passed away last May Carey Bell was one of the best harmonica players and had a personal style which identified him as soon as he began to blow his original harp phrasing Influenced by Walter Horton, he also was a big influence to new generations of harmonica players, such as Billy Branch among others The DVD was recorded live at Chicago Rosa’s Lounge and Buddy Guy’s Legends and at Lurrie Bell’s home about eight and five months before he passed away His son Lurrie backs him along the whole recordings The DVD shows Carey on vocal and harmonica playing top form, although his evident health problems he was suffering The musicians who back him perform on a natural restrained bright way, together with an intense empathy and deep feeling on stage All opf you who watch it will be amazed by the cool magic playing in tunes like What My Mama Told Me, Gettin’ Up, Baby Please Don’t Go, Last Night, Low Down Dirty Shame or the moving Broken And Hungry recorded on acoustic format at his son Lurrie’s home An impressive DVD you will not keep out of watching again and again as an homage to one of the sweetest and greatest bluesmen who unfortunately has been gone
